Two years after winning the Miss World pageant Priyanka Chopra made her debut in the Tamil film, ‘Thamizhan' where she played the role of ‘Priya', the love interest of the protagonist in the film played by Vijay. The film was praised for its wit, although the depth of her character was said to be lacking by critics. She also sang in the film, singing ‘Ullathai Killadhe', along with Vijay. The next year she appeared in her first Bollywood film, ‘The Hero: Love Story of a Spy'. She played a supporting role as a doctor named Shaheen in the film. The New York Times accused the film of "ripping its text from the seething border tensions between India and Pakistan, spicing the conflict with hot-tempered religious zealots bent on nuclear havoc." The fil was not well received by critics, even though it had the highest gross earnings that year. As for Deepika Padukone, she pursued her modelling career further and was awarded the title of ‘Model of the Year' at the 5th annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards. Not long after, she was chosen as one of the models for the Kingfisher Swimsuit Calender for 2006 and then won two trophies at the idea Zee Fashion Awards: ‘Female Model of the Year – (commercial Assignments)' and also ‘Fresh Face of the Year'. She was also chosen as the brand ambassador of Kingfisher Airlines and later Levi Strauss and Tissot SA. These two actresses present the more popular path that many actresses took to their stardom, there are not many exceptions like Vidya Balan in the industry.

Priyanka Chopra was awarded good reviews for her debut Hindi performance. Later that year she appeared in Raj Kanwar's ‘Andaaz', playing the character of Jiya who falls in love with Raj Malhotra, played by Ashkay Kumar. The film was a success at the box office and it also earned her a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award and a nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. Deepika  Padukone made her cinematic debut in ‘Kannada' in 2006. She later made a successful Bollywood debut in 2007 with Farah Khan's blockbuster ‘Om Shanti Om'. The film was a re-incarnation melodrama featuring her in a double role. Her performance was well received, earning her a Filmfare best Female Debut Award as well as her first Filmfare Best Actress nomination. Vidya Balan got her first Filmfare recognition in 2005.

Deepika Padukone is a clear case of a model turned actress. Priyanka Chopra is a classic case of a model and scholar turned actress. Vidya Balan presents the exception in the industry.
